Video: Joe Burrow arrives at his game wearing an Alouettes jersey

Today is Sunday. Yes, the Canadiens are playing, but for football fans, it’s the best day of the week.

In the one-hour games, there are several good duels to watch, but my favorite is clearly the one between the Texans and Bengals. On one side is Joe Burrow, who is back to his usual form after a few early-season misses.

On the other: C.J. Stroud, who is clearly the best quarterback of his draft year so far. In his last game, he annihilated the opposing defense.

Burrow arrived at the game in style. He wore an old Alouettes jersey with the name “Burrow” on the back. That’s because his father played for the Montreal team in the 70s and 80s.

A fine way to honor his father’s former team, which has just reached the Grey Cup final. Yesterday, Montreal beat the Toronto Argonauts 38-17 at home. Montreal’s defense was sensational, and not even the defending champions and the best team of the 2023 season were able to match it.

This is the first time since 2010 that the Als have reached the grand final.

In last night’s other association final (CFL), the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the British Columbia Lions 24-13. Winnipeg and Montreal will face off next Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton, as part of the 110th Grey Cup.

Green Day will be on hand for the half-time show. A good show is in store.

Extension

As for Burrow, he and his team are in last place in the North Division. However, with a 5-3 record, they are currently in a position to make the playoffs. In fact, every club in this division (Ravens, Steelers and Browns) would make them if they started today.

We’ll see if Jim Burrow’s jersey serves as his son’s good luck charm. This isn’t the first time a great (American) quarterback has sported Montreal merchandise. Tom Brady has been doing it for a long time, having been drafted by the Expos.

As for the Texans, their 4-4 record is good for second place in the South Division. Houston didn’t have big ambitions this season, but the Stroud-led offense keeps the team in every game. The Texans are an interesting team to watch in 2023-2024.
