Pierre Gervais wins a bottle of wine from Sidney Crosby

Pierre Gervais officially retired after the Canadiens’ 2021-22 season. The team’s former equipment manager left his mark on the minds of many Tricolore players, but his influence would go even further.

Sidney Crosby offered him a bottle of wine during Gervais’ last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Gervais shared this anecdote with Mario Langlois on 98.5 Sports.

And why would Sidney Crosby do such a thing? Out of the kindness of his heart? No!

The legendary 2010 Golden Goal scorer rubbed shoulders with Pierre Gervais at the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. Together, the two men won gold medals on both occasions.

Crosby has Gervais to thank for the special attention the equipment manager gave his skates. Number 87 wants his skates sharpened between periods. So when his skates were sharp when he scored the winning goal against Ryan Miller in overtime of the 2010 finals, he had Gervais to thank.

Sidney Crosby may have a career worthy of a hockey legend, but he still has one less gold medal than the famous Pierre Gervais, who has three thanks to his victory at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

But then, a bottle of wine isn’t as big as the ATV he received from the Canadians.

Still, it’s a nice gesture from Sidney Crosby, from one legend to another.
