Peter Laviolette: An announcement could be coming soon in New York
All indications are that, at the moment, Peter Laviolette is the favorite for the vacant head coaching position with the New York Rangers.

The information was revealed (and confirmed) by Elliotte Friedman earlier today on his 32 Thoughts podcast

And the tipster also stated that, if Laviolette does indeed land the job in the Big Apple, we should find out no later than this week.

Clearly, things are progressing on this front.

It’s amazing how quickly things change in the NHL. No?

After all, the Rangers were eliminated on May 1 against the Devils, Gerard Gallant decided to end his association with the New York club and now, nearly a month later…

Now the Blue Shirts seem to have found their new point man.

In fact, Laviolette is well known in New York because he has often coached in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division. He’s been head coach of the Islanders, Hurricanes, Flyers, Capitals… And now, if Friedman’s comments are anything to go by, he’ll be the Rangers’ new coach.

In the past few weeks, Elliotte Friedman has been saying that the Rangers could be looking to hire a new coach to support Alexis Lafrenière’s development. I wonder if that’s still the case… And if so, I’m especially eager to see the direction Laviolette will take with the former first overall pick in the 2020 draft.

Being Rangers coach can’t be easy. There’s the media pressure, there’s the pressure to perform in a big market like New York… And let’s just say there are a lot of star players to satisfy in the team’s line-up.

If Laviolette is hired following his dismissal in Washington, it will be interesting to see how he handles his superstars, because it didn’t work out with the Capitals and Alex Ovechkin.

In fact, Evgeny Kuznetsov has been looking to leave the team since Lavio took over because the coach’s style didn’t “fit” the Russian’s offensive needs…

And God knows there’s plenty of offensive talent in New York.

Anyway, the point is this. All this to say that the Rangers may have found their new best man…

And in the end, if the scenario materializes, Peter Laviolette won’t have to wait too long for another chance to shine behind the bench of an NHL team.
