Another magnificent performance by Samuel Montembeault at the CDM

Canada faced Finland today at the World Championship. The winner of the match would automatically qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament…

And the Canadians can thank Samuel Montembeault for their ticket to the next round.

The CH goaltender was once again very solid in front of his net, with a fine performance of 27 saves. He allowed just one goal in the game, which ended 4-1.

Monty was named Canada’s Player of the Game. This is the second time this has happened since the start of the tournament:

Jack Quinn, Samuel Blais, Michael Carcone and Tyler Toffoli (in order) hit the target for Canada in the match. For the Finns, Teemu Hartikainen scored the only goal.

But back to Montembeault.

It may seem like we’re repeating ourselves, but the Quebecer seems to have been in great form since the start of the competition. His save percentage of .949 in five games played is excellent, and basically, Monty is just continuing the fine season he’s had in a Habs uniform.

That’s something to celebrate, and Kent Hughes must be happy to see him performing like this. Clearly, Montembeault is on a steady progression curve, and his development has been going very well since he was selected by the CH in the October 2021 lottery.

So much the better!

While we’re on the subject of the World Championship, I can’t overlook the match that was played between Latvia and Sweden… A match won by the Latvians. No, it’s not a joke.

Let’s not forget that Latvia is one of the tournament’s two hosts… And after the victory, the amphitheatre went wild!

The Germans took on Switzerland earlier today… And won!

The final four will be made up of Canada, the United States, Latvia and Germany.

Canada will face Latvia in the next round, in the hope of securing their ticket to the tournament’s grand final.
