The Canadiens have not scored on the power play in their last eight games.

The Habs haven’t been good on the power play in recent years.

The start of the 23-24 season was no different, in fact: Craig Button picked up Alex Burrows for the club’s poor performance on the man-advantage in October because, on the ice, it wasn’t fancy.

The club bounced back, so thatafter 15 games, the Habs were in the top-10 in the NHL for powerplay success rate.

But then the Tricolore fell back into bad habits. The team hasn’t scored on the powerplay in its last eight games (!!!)…

Even with 23 opportunities:

How can the Habs win games if they can’t take advantage of a man advantage?

The CH may have scoring opportunities in such situations, but they’re too few and far between, and the players aren’t able to capitalize on their chances.

That’s a problem.

To make matters worse, the Habs saw Alex Newhook get hurt last night.

The forward is the second-wave quarterback on the powerplay and is used to carry the puck into opposing territory when the club uses the slingshot strategy.

But the problem with the powerplay is that the players don’t move in the opponent’s zone. It’s the rotation of the guys on the ice that makes games hard to read, because the players are never in the same place on the ice.

The Habs are far too predictable, and teams that play the CH know that Nick Suzuki often looks for Cole Caufield on the other side of the net.

The CH is currently rebuilding and it’s time to try something new. Slafkovsky’s been doing well lately… Why not give him a chance to shine on the club’s first power-play unit?

After all… it’s not as if the current method is working at the moment.
