Mike Matheson injured in Canadian win
After a victory over the Blue Jackets on Thursday, the Canadiens were back in action tonight against the Jets. The Jets had won their last three games and came to Montreal with confidence.

Here is Martin St-Louis’ line-up:

Kaiden Guhle returned to action and Joel Armia played his first game in Montreal this season.

Here are the opponents:

Right from the start, Winnipeg took advantage of the CH’s indiscipline.

Not with a power play, but with a penalty shot. Adam Lowry, the new captain, scored his first goal of the season.

Moments later, Justin Barron continued his excellent start to the season with his third goal in five games.

Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Kaiden Guhle picked up the assists in net.

It will be difficult for the CH to remove Barron, who played against his brother Morgan, from the lineup. When David Savard returns, who will get the axe?

The 52-year-old is the first defenseman since Andrei Markov in 2013 to score three goals in his first five games of the season.

His offensive potential is enormous and he’s proving it.

Meanwhile, Marc Scheifele has been booed. And it’s not because he’s an exceptional player…

At the end of the period, Jake Allen made his best save to deny… Kaiden Guhle.

Reminiscent of Dominik Hasek’s heyday.

The second period began and the Canadiens were still in the locker room.

The Jets scored two goals in the space of 33 seconds.

That made it 3-1 going into the middle period.

The Habs didn’t give up, however. On the power play, Sean Monahan scored his fourth goal of the season.

Montreal has now scored with a man advantage in its last five games.

Prior to tonight’s games, the PP was 12th in the NHL.

At the start of the third period, Mike Matheson made a few skate moves, but returned to the dressing room afterwards. The Habs confirmed that he was undergoing tests and that his return to the game was uncertain.

In the end, he never returned. Let’s hope his injury isn’t serious…

Montreal started the period shorthanded. After two minutes, Joel Armia, in his first game this year, found the back of the net.

Afterwards, Arber Xhekaj Tanner Pearson threw down the gloves.

It was inconclusive. His last fight was on October 27, 2022. He’s been fighting for years.

For the second game in a row, the Canadiens went into overtime.

At the very end of overtime, Cole Caufield had the winning goal on the tip of his paddle, but missed the target. On to the shootout:

The Tricolore came from behind 1-3 for the second time in a row.

Final score: 4-3 Montreal.

Jake Allen was spectacular once again. This time, he stopped 42 of 45 shots. He’s currently the team’s number-one goalie.

After a successful stay at home, the CH heads west for three games. First stop: Vegas, Monday.
