There are a number of similarities between Lane Hutson and his younger brother

Some of the top draft prospects are currently taking part in the World Under-18 Championship, and it’sa great opportunity for each of them to impress the many scouts present at the tournament, especially with the draft almost two months away to the day. So you can understand why Kent Hughes and his group have made the trip down to spy on the young talent. The Canadiens’ GM was invited to make an appearance on TSN Hockey’s on-location broadcast, and Hughes made no secret of the fact that this is an exciting time to be there, because the next crop of players looks very promising. But Hughes was caught a little off guard when he was asked about Lane Hutson. The latter’s younger brother is taking part in the 2023 edition of the CDM for under-18s… And it’s easy to see why. Lane and Cole Hutson are virtually identical players on the ice.

Cole, at 5’8 and 145 lbs, is also an offensive defenseman. The 16-year-old has five assists in three games so far in the competition… And, like Lane, he’s noted for his mobility and ability to create offensive plays. Like his brother, Cole has chosen Boston University to continue his development. He’s expected to make his NCAA debut at the start of the 2025-2026 season, and will obviously be one to watch. In fact, it’s amazing how many similarities there are in the play of the two American brothers.

There’s already a Hutson we love in town. There’s already a Cole we love in town, too…Just for that reason, I expect Hughes to do everything in his power to get his hands on Cole Hutson. #Sarcasm On a more serious note, it would still be a funny adon. But, let’s not forget that Cole Hutson is only 16 years old and still has some crusts to eat before he’s even drafted.One step at a time.
