Beck and the Petes oust the big favoriteshttps://t.co/q2oOON7ypG–

Owen Beck’s Peterborough Petes had a big challenge on their hands when they took on the Ottawa 67’s (regular-season champions) in their second-round OHL series, but with Ontario playoff surprises a dime a dozen (just ask Shane Wright), nothing was certain. In fact, last night, Beck picked up two assists in a 5-4 win for his team in Game #6 of the series between the two teams. We’retalking 107 points in the standings, compared to just 74. Hats off to them.
In the third round, Beck (seven points in 10 playoff games) will face either the North Bay Battalion or the Barrie Colts. It’s great experience for him… and with the Laval Rocket out of the picture, he might as well get as far as he can in the OHL. After all, beating such a big club as the 67’s is pretty remarkable.
Finally, while it’s disappointing to see the @OHLHockey champions in the regular season with a franchise-record 107 points, it’s worth remembering that the @Ottawa67sHockey have10 players aged 16/17 and saw themselves between ranks 8-10 at the start of the season. #BestIsYetToCome pic.twitter.com/Ei7MH3Oyyt

It’s worth noting that the Canadiens have several prospects still alive who will aspire to play in the Memorial Cup. In fact, no less than five of the club’s prospects are in the final four of their respective leagues. Who are they? Jared Davidson (Seattle), Logan Mailloux (London), Owen Beck (Peterborough), Joshua Roy (Sherbrooke) and Riley Kidney (Gatineau) are still alive at the moment.Five of the six CHL semi-final series will therefore contain a Canadiens prospect. Apart from Owen Beck, who aspires to break into the Canadiens’ line-up but is expected to play most of next season in the OHL, the other four are expected to make the jump to the pros.
I think Davidson will get the Rafaël Harvey-Pinard treatment by being offered an AHL contract to see if he merits a proper entry-level contract afterwards. The others will play in Laval… and maybe Montreal.
