Series wrap-up: Hurricanes advance to Eastern final
After the Leafs-Panthers series the day before yesterday, another series could potentially come to an end last night. The other series of the day was the all-important Game 5.

Here are the results and highlights:

Hurricanes eliminate Devils

The Hurricanes were back home after a two-game stint in New Jersey. At stake: a place in the final four.

Thanks to an overtime victory, Carolina eliminated the Devils in five games and became the first team to advance to the Association Finals.

The Devils took an early lead. Dawson Mercer scored his third of the series.

But early in the second period, Jaccob Slavin tied the game with a seemingly harmless shot from the point.

New Jersey regained the lead, but Brent Burns again brought both teams back to square one.

Heading to overtime in Raleigh, where it was finally Jesper Fast, on the power play, who nailed the winner.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi picked up an assist on the winning goal.

Rod Brind’Amour’s team will now face the winner of the Panthers-Leafs series in the next round. Their opponent will be announced this evening.

Stars win precious match number five

The Stars and Kraken faced off in the all-important game five of a series.

In the end, Dallas won the match and currently leads the series 3-2.

The match got off to a great start for the Stars. Wyatt Johnston scored the first goal of the game, his third of the series.

Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski then scored their seventh of the series to double and triple his team’s lead.

By this time, Peter DeBoer’s team had scored three goals on five shots.

But the Kraken didn’t give up. Just over a minute after Pavelski’s goal, Adam Larsson found the back of the net to reduce the gap to two goals.

Then, Jared McCann finally scored his first playoff goal after scoring 40 in the regular season.

But Seattle were unable to tie the score after that. The Stars even scored twice more to escape with the victory.

Final score: 5-2.

Dallas will have the chance to eliminate the Kraken, Saturday, 7pm, at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.
