Patrik Laine is still without a contract for the 2026-27 season. The former Canadiens player, who hasn't played since October 16, 2025, is therefore still looking for a job for the season.
His many shortcomings on the ice don't help… but the fact that he's such a good scorer will always keep his name in the conversation.
And after a few quiet days, there's new development on the front from Finland.
Antti Mäkinen, who covers hockey in Laine's home country, stated that two teams have been particularly active in trying to sign Laine over the past week.
We're talking about the Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings.

This isn't the first time these two teams have been the subject of speculation. We know that Pierre LeBrun mentioned the Red Wings two weeks ago, while the Kings have been linked to Laine for months.
Both clubs could benefit from a quality scorer, especially on the power play. But even so, Laine isn't a perfect solution—we can all agree on that.
The Red Wings' situation is particularly interesting given that the club is already dealing with Dylan Larkin's trade request and the contractual situation of Simon Edvinsson, who remains sidelined because he doesn't have a contract for 2026–27. But apparently, they're still finding the time to consider Laine.
We'll see if Laine eventually signs, sooner or later. But clearly, there seems to be interest in his services: it remains to be seen whether the Finn—who is reportedly being picky about his next destination—will want to join either of these two teams.

– News about a Habs prospect.
