Ivan Demidov is a good hockey player.

On the ice, he can work magic with the puck. We love him for that… but we also love him for his personality.

The young player seemed shy when he first arrived in town, especially since he wasn't familiar with the language. But today, it's a whole different story.

We saw it during training camp: Demidov answered reporters' questions in much better English. He's been practicing over the past year, and it really shows.

But the kid has also improved his French.

He shot a new commercial with the company Manmade, in which he's seen modeling boxers and can be heard saying several words in French (with a truly impressive vocabulary).

I love it when he says:

Sure, he probably practiced his lines a bit before filming the scenes we see in the ad, but still.

Hearing him speak, you can tell how much he's improved. He doesn't sound like a native Quebecer, let's be honest… but it's nice to see him making the effort.

At the very least, the result is really impressive, and I want to tip my hat to him.

Learning French isn't easy… especially for a young man who's just arrived from Russia. And Demidov knows just how important this aspect is to the fans because it's been the subject of several controversies in recent years in Montreal.

Way to go, Ivan. And if I had to share a Quebec expression with him in return, I'd say, “Aweille, mon homme!” hehe.
