The salary cap is going to skyrocket again in the coming years in the Bettman circuit.

Will this prompt some teams to make quick moves during the 2026–2027 season? Elliotte Friedman (32 Thoughts) has opened the door to such a scenario.

Basically, because teams can quickly find themselves out of the playoff race and because there are more unresolved issues than ever in the NHL at the start of this season, things could start to shift.

Naturally, one wonders if this could affect the Montreal team.

After all, there are rumors swirling around the Canadiens, who might let some players go to make room for players who can help the team in the long run.

On that note, Grant McCagg believes the Canadiens will put a player on the trading block before Kaiden Guhle returns to the lineup among the healthy defensemen.

Interesting…

Darren Dreger, on the Ray and Dregs podcast, also believes the Canadiens are among the teams trying to make moves before the start of the regular season.

It's unclear whether the Habs will succeed, but they certainly aren't the first to suggest that the Canadiens might try to shake things up in the short term.

This morning, the possibility was raised that Kent Hughes might make a move soon.
