When you think about the Kirill Marchenko case, the Canadiens immediately come to mind.

But we must keep in mind that just because a player is closely tied to a club doesn't mean it will necessarily end well for that club.

The Pierre-Luc Dubois case is a good example: sometimes, the work happens behind the scenes.

Does that mean the Canadiens won't land the player? That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that if he were to be traded elsewhere, it wouldn't necessarily be the surprise of the century.

Especially since it's unclear whether the Habs have the assets to strike a deal with the Blue Jackets…

Right now, one name is coming up more and more, and that's the Bruins. Will Dan Milstein (who recently used a teddy bear emoji to spice up the story) get his client out of Columbus by involving Boston?

If the team is more willing to part with its young players than the Canadiens, it could work.

Current rumors suggest that the Bruins have made an offer for Marchenko. Several sources have been mentioning Boston over the past few days.

It feels like the team is being aggressive.

Elliotte Friedman, who also brought up the Bruins (and talked more about Boston than he did about the Canadiens on his podcast), thinks the Blue Jackets might ask another team to take on a bad contract to help facilitate the trade.

The Bruins currently have over $3.6 million in cap space. That's not the case for every NHL team.

It's unclear whether Marchenko would be open to negotiating a contract extension with the Bruins. It's also unclear whether the Blue Jackets, who are shopping him around, would be open to letting another team handle the negotiations.

But it's clear that Marchenko, who failed to live up to his GM's expectations (as reported by Aaron Portzline) during Saturday's game, wants out.
