The Canadiens spent the summer trying to trade Samuel Montembeault. They didn't succeed.

Since the Quebec native is having a strong training camp and the Canadiens don't want to lose him in the waivers, I expect him to make the team (until proven otherwise) when the regular season begins next week.

And since Kent Hughes doesn't want a three-way situation, Jacob Fowler is likely headed to Laval.

But even if there isn't a wave of goaltender injuries at training camps across the NHL, could Kent Hughes still find a taker for Monty, despite his strong camp in Montreal?

I don't know if a few strong practices could convince a GM to trade an asset for Monty at this point in the season.

According to a report by Jimmy Murphy on the Sick Podcast website, the Canadiens are still trying to trade the Quebec native before the start of the season.

That's what several sources are telling him.

Will the GM get his price? Because if the answer is no, that will likely mean Jacob Fowler would be eating up minutes in the AHL in the short term.

If the Habs manage to trade Montembeault, they'd be relying on two young goalies, which is a risk over an 84-game season. And the insurance policy would be Kaapo Kahkonen.

It's also worth noting that Murphy's article mentions the case of Connor Hellebuyck.

According to the reporter, the Canadiens aren't interested in the deal. They haven't called the Jets to inquire about the price tag for the goaltender, who is sitting out while awaiting a trade.

I'm not surprised, considering that the Habs already have two young goalies with promising futures. Why pay top dollar for a guy who has historically faltered in the playoffs?

Keep in mind that this is based on the fact that, according to the Toronto Sun, Hellebuyck wouldn't say no to a trade to Montreal.
