Cutter Gauthier (finally) signs a contract with the Ducks

It's (finally) settled.

After months of negotiations, the Anaheim Ducks have finally reached an agreement with Cutter Gauthier. He had still not signed a contract for the upcoming season.

It was well known that the forward, who couldn't sign a hostile offer, was asking for a lot. He wanted a big salary… and he's just signed a nice deal.

We're talking about a six-year contract that will pay him $13.5 million per year. The total value is therefore $81 million.

The Ducks made the announcement just a few minutes ago.

Keep in mind that, prior to this signing, the Ducks had roughly $18 million in cap space. The team will therefore be able to fit Gauthier's new contract into its payroll without having to cut another high-salary player.

But ultimately, the team really did need to get rid of Chris Kreider's $6.5 million. They wouldn't have been able to pay everyone if Kreider had remained on the roster.
