Chris Kreider is a member of the Canadiens. And in a little while, he'll be speaking to the media.

But before that, Jeff Gorton spoke with the press. He answered a few questions about the Canadiens' newest addition.

Makes sense, right?

What's worth noting is that the Canadiens' president announced that the new Canadiens player—who wanted to choose his next destination—called the Canadiens.

Not the other way around!

So it's clear that Kreider, an American player, really wanted to come play for the Montreal Canadiens for the upcoming hockey season.

That's noteworthy, isn't it?

Obviously, the connections between Jeff Gorton, Martin St-Louis, Jim Ramsay, and Kreider helped make the Canadiens an attractive enough team for the veteran.

But if the team hadn't been good, let's just say it wouldn't have been that simple.

But ultimately, he's here. He chose the Habs (and the Habs chose him), which means that the culture established in recent years is paying off right now.

That's great.

We'll see how the Canadiens manage his ice time, but it's clear that Kreider will be able to help the team. We'll see what his role is in the coming weeks, as training camp progresses.

But at least he's here.

After hearing Pierre LeBrun say that defenseman Arber Xhekaj was close to a new contract, Jeff Gorton echoed that sentiment at a press conference.
