Quinn Hughes hasn't forgotten what the Wild did to bring him to Minnesota.

And in a way, that could carry a lot of weight in the negotiations currently underway.

Because yes, Hughes has immense value on the market: he could certainly land a massive contract if he decided to maximize every dollar of his next deal. But…

But there's one small detail that completely changes the game: the Wild paid dearly to acquire the defenseman… and Hughes knows this all too well. He knows the Minnesota organization had to take risks to bring him in.

And that's why Michael Russo (The Sheet Podcast) thinks Hughes feels he needs to return the favor to his team. As if he owed the Wild a debt… 

Ultimately, Hughes has to make a decision that's right for him.

If he sees himself winning the Stanley Cup in Minnesota and the Wild can make him very wealthy, that might help convince him to sign a lucrative contract.

But we also know that the Hughes brothers want to play together at some point in their careers. And at this point, I wonder if all of this has anything to do with the fact that he hasn't signed his contract extension yet…

It's up to the Wild and Bill Guerin to pull out all the stops for the defenseman. It's up to them to convince him that he can be happy in Minnesota… and that he'll have a chance to hoist the most prestigious trophy in the world of hockey.

But if Hughes isn't exactly thrilled by the idea, that certainly complicates things…
