It's unclear what will happen with Samuel Montembeault.

Will he be traded before the start of the season? Or will he be sent down to the American Hockey League instead? Can we consider him a contender for the backup goaltender spot in Montreal next season?

Hmm…

One thing is certain: Kent Hughes will do whatever he can to put him in the best situation for him (and for the team). If a trade goes through, then so be it. And with Frederik Andersen getting injured in practice, we're keeping an eye on the Edmonton Oilers…

But Tony Marinaro, for his part, is wondering if there's a good fit between Monty… and the Los Angeles Kings.

And listening to him talk, it's not out of the question.

Darcy Kuemper is getting older, and the Kings will have to replace him at some point.

Monty's value probably isn't very high—his contract isn't exactly the heaviest in the National Hockey League…

It wouldn't be a huge risk for the Kings. They wouldn't have to strip the team down to acquire a goalie like Montembeault, and that's where things start to make sense in a way.

And for Kent Hughes, it might solve a few problems…

Because right now, the goalie situation is going to be the talk of the town at the start of training camp if he's still in Montreal. And the worst thing that could happen is that it causes a distraction within the team.

The Habs don't need that. And neither does Monty.

In a Nutshell

– Phew. Good question!

– Wow.

– Well done.
