Stéphane Auger's future at TVA Sports is starting to spark speculation as the next hockey season approaches.

The former NHL referee, now a referee analyst, was not on the air during the recent playoffs.

His absence was puzzling given the importance of coverage of the Canadiens' playoff run.

That said, as of today, no official announcement has confirmed Auger's return (or departure) for the upcoming season. And that means the situation is fueling speculation, even though we should be cautious before concluding that there has been an official split between the two parties.

Our colleague Maxime Truman had, in fact, mentioned Auger's absence during the recent playoffs…

It's worth noting that Stéphane Auger also serves as general manager of Hockey Québec. TVA Sports recently featured him as one of its analysts, while also highlighting his role at Hockey Québec.

It's therefore possible that his absence is simply due to his many professional responsibilities…. But with just a few weeks to go before the start of the season, the lack of clarity surrounding his situation is starting to draw attention.

Especially since TVA Sports is expected to continue placing a strong emphasis on hockey in its programming. The network remains a major player in French-language NHL broadcasts following the renewal of its rights this summer, and we know that the former referee has been part of the organization for several years now.

So, this story is one to watch.
