Carey Price was certainly one of the best goaltenders of his era and one of the best in the history of the Montreal Canadiens.

It was announced in late June 2026 that he would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Although he never won a Stanley Cup during his illustrious career, he has more than proven that he deserves such an honor.

We also know that he will be added to the Bell Centre's Ring of Honor on November 10. Two tremendous honors for #31.

However, many are wondering whether Price deserves to have his jersey retired at the Bell Centre. After all, it's been a long time since a number was retired in Montreal (Guy Lapointe in 2014).

The Habs already have a lot of retired jerseys, and over time, they'll have to save some for others.

Geoff Molson was asked about this by RDS, and according to him, there's no discussion on the matter at this time.

The fact that he doesn't have a championship ring certainly complicates matters, since the Habs are a storied franchise with 24 Stanley Cups.

If we set aside the fact that he hasn't won a Stanley Cup in his career, he more than deserves this honor. It has to be said: he never really had a great team in front of him, and more often than not, he carried the team on his own.

One of the best teams he had in front of him was probably the 2020–21 squad, when he was nearing the end of his career and not at 100%. Tyler Toffoli was the team's leading scorer and goal-scorer at the time, and Nick Suzuki was in his second NHL season.

The Habs still made it to the Stanley Cup Final, and Price was nothing short of outstanding with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. And let's just say it wasn't just a “series of a lifetime”:
