The Montreal Canadiens already have a very strong, young, and talented core, with several prospects on the way.

Players like Michael Hage, Alexander Zharovsky, Jacob Fowler (who isn't officially a member of the team), Bryce Pickford, Adam Engstrom, and many others are all very intriguing.

However, the Habs need to improve to be considered a powerhouse and a true Stanley Cup contender, especially in the top six on offense, or by adding a physical, defensively reliable right-handed defenseman.

That's why there's a lot of speculation that the Habs will acquire a quality player in exchange for one or more prospects or draft picks.

During his most recent HabsCast, Grant McCagg stated that the Canadiens need to trade Zharovsky and Engstrom now.

No matter which prospects are included in a package for a promising player, it needs to happen quickly.

Zharovsky and Engstrom have great potential (especially Zharovsky), and together they make for an attractive package for several teams in the midst of a rebuild or “retool.” Adding a first-round pick makes the deal very appealing, but even so, the Habs need to find a taker.

Engstrom alone wouldn't bring in a very interesting player, and Zharovsky alone could bring in a good player, but not a game-changer.

Together, it's a different story, and as I mentioned earlier, there are other prospects who could make the offer more enticing.

Engstrom is a very mobile defenseman, but he lacks the physicality and defensive reliability to see him in the future with the Habs.

This summer seemed like the perfect time to make a trade like this, before we realized that prices on the market were ridiculously high.

Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have decided to be patient, and fans need to trust them and believe they'll find the right moment to add an impact player.
