Earlier this week, Corey Pronman said on a podcast that Zach Benson faced some crappy teams in the playoffs to justify the young player's low ranking on his list of the top 156 U23 players in the NHL.
And indirectly, it's as if he were saying that the Habs are a crappy team.
His comments caused a stir because we know the reputation of the person in question. And we know he's been pretty harsh on the Habs and their young players in the past.
But now, during a Q&A session on Reddit, Pronman decided to explain himself… saying he regrets the way the words came out. He wanted to draw a connection between the Corsi percentages of the Bruins, the Habs, and the Hurricanes:
I regret the way I said it on the podcast.
Montreal was 23rd in the league in Corsi%, Boston was 19th, and Carolina was 1st. That was the real point I wanted to make: the difference between them and Carolina. – Corey Pronman

Do I agree with his explanation? Not necessarily.
But at least he took the time to explain why he said that. He gave an example that seemed totally logical in his head… but it came out so twisted that it was hard to understand what he was getting at.
Because, at its core, it was pretty clear…
Corey Pronman justifies ranking Zach Benson 124th, even after a strong playoff performance, by saying he “played against two shitty playoff teams” in Montreal and Boston. Scott Wheeler pushes back. #LetsGoBuffalo #GoHabsGo #NHLBruins pic.twitter.com/DjDQHiGVcJ

Regardless: explaining himself this way probably won't win Pronman any points with Canadiens fans.
Because in the end, the damage is already done. After all, this wasn't the first time he'd made headlines for the wrong reasons in Montreal…
