Do you like nicknames?

I'm asking because the Canadiens have invited “the Rat” to their rookie camp, which will take place in a few weeks.

Who is it?

We're talking about Mavrick Rousseau-Hamel, who has spent the last few years playing for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. It's also worth noting that Rousseau-Hamel is a 5'10”, 168-pound left-handed forward who doesn't describe himself as the most offensive player on the planet.

He tallied 27 points (nine goals) in 56 games last season. But more notably, he finished the season with a total of 113 penalty minutes… which goes some way toward explaining why he goes by the nickname “the Rat.”

At 20 years old, Mavrick Rousseau-Hamel will want to prove he deserves a professional contract.

He won't make the Canadiens' roster, and we don't expect to see him competing for a spot with the Laval Rocket either. But if he has a strong rookie camp and is able to put his name on the map, that will already be a big step forward for him.

Above all, it will give him valuable experience and allow him to prove himself to the Habs' management. So, it's up to him.

And maybe it'll help him land a spot on a team for next season. Who knows!

In a nutshell

– Well!

– I like that.

– A little something positive from the Jays.
