How about we talk a little about the standings?
Right now, in the American League, three teams can breathe a little easier: the Rays, the Yankees, and the White Sox.
The Rays have 13 more wins than the Orioles, the last team that would make the playoffs in the American League if the postseason started today.
The Yankees, with 69 wins, are in a good position as well. And the White Sox are 5.5 games ahead in their division.
With 66 wins, the Red Sox are also in a favorable position. But as with all the other teams, a slump could be fatal.
Especially since, in reality, Boston is in a strong division. Four teams in the division are currently in the playoffs… and the Blue Jays are just one game away from making it.

The Orioles, Rangers, Blue Jays, Tigers, Twins, Guardians, and Mariners are all within 2.5 games of each other.
And the Astros don't necessarily have a comfortable lead in the West.
In fact, aside from the Royals, the A's, and the Angels, everyone is just a good run away from making the playoffs.
The end of the season is shaping up to be interesting.
It's different from the National League, where only one team is within three games of the playoffs in the race for the best second-place spot.
We're talking about the Diamondbacks here.

We shouldn't be too quick to count out Miami and St. Louis, who are within four games of the playoffs, but let's just say there are more teams that don't stand much of a chance.
The Pirates, Reds, and Nationals—barring a miracle—won't make it. And no miracle can save the 2026 Mets, Giants, or Rockies.
The Padres and the Phillies are currently in playoff contention, but they'll have to work hard to secure a spot among the top six in the National League.
The Cubs, the Dodgers (who aren't guaranteed to avoid the wild-card game), the Braves, and the Brewers are in good position to make the playoffs.
