A Worrying Moment: Freddie Freeman Falls in the Royals’ dugout

And there was a scare last night (Wednesday) in Los Angeles when Freddie Freeman fell into the opposing team's dugout at Dodger Stadium—that of the Kansas City Royals—early in the eighth inning, in a worrying scene.

Not only did the first baseman fall into the dugout while trying to catch a foul ball that was rolling away from the field, but he continued tumbling down the stairs leading to the visitors' locker room.

Miguel Rojas rushed into the dugout to help him, as did several Royals players. Freeman remained on the ground for a few moments but managed to get back up and return to first base, staying in the game.

After the half-inning, however, Freeman went to his team's dugout and then straight to the locker room—even though he was scheduled to bat at the end of the eighth inning. He was replaced by Tommy Edman at the plate.

Kike Hernández took Freeman's place at first base at the start of the ninth inning as Los Angeles closed out the game and completed the sweep against the Royals.

After the game, manager Dave Roberts provided an update on his player's condition.

He's sore. Hand, knee, foot, a little bit in his shoulder. But I think we really avoided the worst. Visually, it looked very scary. We'll reassess on a day-to-day basis.

The player himself, meanwhile, remained in good spirits after the game.

My kneecaps hurt, my shoulder hurts, my hand hurts, my wrist hurts. I mean, I took a fall. But I'm in good spirits. I've already taken a cold bath. I've done everything I needed to do to put myself in a position where I can, hopefully, play on Thursday.

For now, there are no plans to call up a player from the minors under the hot California sun to replace Freeman.
