A few years ago, the Canadiens drafted a player named Alexander from Russia in the second round.
There were high hopes for him when he arrived here, but he was ultimately traded to acquire a top-6 center for the future.
The Canadiens should have just kept the pick they got from the Islanders instead of trading it for Kirby Dach… but that's really easy to say with four years of hindsight, you know.
Will Romanov's story repeat itself with Zharovsky? Who knows.
But things haven't gone too badly for Romanov since then; he's been with the Islanders for four years. He signed an eight-year contract ($6.25 million per season) that took effect last year. Lou Lamoriello was generous, to say the least.
That doesn't necessarily mean, however, that Romanov will see out his contract on Long Island. After all, there's no indication that Mathieu Darche is happy with that contract for the young Russian.
It was recently reported that, with one year to go before his no-trade clause takes effect, the Islanders were shopping Romanov around to gauge his market value.
That doesn't mean the Islanders will actually trade him… but it's a good idea to see what the situation is.
And on that note, Marco D'Amico (The Starr and D'Amico Show) stated that the Flyers are a team interested in the services of the defenseman currently playing in New York.
Despite his contract, is he clearly attractive to the Flyers? Well.
From what he's heard, the Flyers are on the hunt for a defenseman. John Carlson and Darnell Nurse, before they changed teams, were also targets for Daniel Brière.
The Flyers' GM, from what we can tell, is clearly not afraid of big contracts this summer and is willing to consider anything to improve his roster. #LeoCarlsson #Romanov #Nurse
