Jakub Dobes approves of a threesome

Given Jakub Dobes's performance this season and in the playoffs, he will start—barring a major turnaround—as the Canadiens' number one goaltender.

This summer, his outstanding performance last year was rewarded with a three-year contract worth just over five million dollars annually.

The question is: Who will be the team's second-string goaltender? Veteran Samuel Montembeault, whose contract is expiring and who is no longer part of the team's plans, or up-and-coming goaltender Jacob Fowler?

Whether it's a three-way rotation or not, Dobes would support the organization's decision.

The Czech player is ready for the upcoming season, and you can tell he feels at home with his community in Montreal.

He spent much of the summer in the city and trained last week with Samuel Montembeault.

My colleague Patrick Guillet was actually there to watch the practice.

Fowler, meanwhile, will arrive in Montreal tomorrow.

Even though training camp isn't necessarily just around the corner, Dobes says his preparation has always been the same. He wants to be even better and stronger on the ice.

Last year, he posted a save percentage of .901 and a goals-against average of 2.78. If he's even stronger than he was in 2025–2026, he'll be one of the best goaltenders in 2026–2027.
