The Gaudreau Brothers: Their Father Reflects on the Tragedy Nearly Two Years Later

It has already been nearly two years since Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau lost their lives. The two brothers, who were set to attend their sister's wedding the next day, were fatally struck by a truck while out for a bike ride.

The tragedy, of course, shocked the hockey world.

We know that the defendant in the case, Sean Higgins, has still not gone on trial. His legal team continues to try to delay the proceedings, but they are expected to move forward within the next few weeks.

And as the two-year anniversary of the tragedy approaches, the brothers' father, Guy Gaudreau, gave an interview to TMZ. In it, he mentioned that he still hasn't been able to forgive Higgins.

He doesn't know if he'll ever be able to do so, for that matter.

The brothers' father explains that he's having a very hard time moving on and accepting that his two sons will never return. It's obviously tragic, and it's understandable given the circumstances.

No tribute or amount of love can ever replace them, of course, even though we know the hockey world is working hard to help the family get through this tragedy.

But in the meantime, Guy Gaudreau is trying to keep his sons' memory alive. He and his wife have raised money to fund a playground for children with special needs, which has been named in honor of the two brothers. It's a beautiful way to honor their memory.

We'll see how the case unfolds in the coming months, but it's worth noting that the defendant is scheduled to return to court on September 11. We'll see if the legal proceedings move forward at that time.
