Right after the trade deadline, it became clear that the club had made sure it had enough players to finish the season.

Forgive me, I like to joke around: the club will never have enough pitchers.

After seeing Trey Yesavage go down with an injury (he may even need surgery), another pitcher did the same.

Spencer Arrighetti, acquired from the Astros, was making a rehab start in Triple-A. And he left the game, presumably after re-injuring his left foot.

From (potentially) seven starters, the Blue Jays are now down to five: Jameson Taillon, Max Scherzer, Shane Bieber, Jose Soriano, and Dylan Cease.

At least Cease is there. Yesterday's loss in Chicago certainly wasn't his fault.

If Arrighetti has to stay on the injured list, he'll join not only Yesavage, but also Cody Ponce, Jose Berrios, Bowden Francis, and Patrick Corbin.

These are all pitchers who were expected to be key contributors. Eric Lauer and Kevin Gausman were also expected to have a bigger impact, for that matter.

The Blue Jays have already used 13 starters this year, including openers. That number will go up when Jose Soriano takes the mound.

Spencer Arrighetti, Jake Bloss, and others could join the group.

In many ways, it's time for the Blue Jays' season to end. The team may not be far from the playoffs, but…

But given the way they're playing, there's no point in getting our hopes up. And most of the team's fans are well aware of that.
