What if Vladimir Tarasenko became a target for the Canadiens?

The Russian isn't the same player he once was, but he's still capable of producing. He tallied 47 points (23 goals) in 75 games last season with the Wild, and he knows how to play on a top-6 line.

Montreal needs a guy like him. Especially right now… 

Jimmy Murphy (Sick Podcast) thinks Tarasenko would definitely be a good fit in Montreal. He's from Russia (and there are Russians on the Habs), his agent is Dan Milstein (who has a good relationship with the Canadiens), and he could be a short-term solution for the Habs.

While waiting for other players to arrive or for a big name to become available, it's true that this could get interesting in some ways.

Vladimir Tarasenko is 34 years old. He wouldn't arrive in Montreal as a savior, and he wouldn't have the pressure of carrying the team on his own.

And for a player with his level of offensive skill, that's where his case becomes even more intriguing. When talented players become the fifth or sixth-best forwards on their respective teams, expectations are lower (and the pressure is less intense)…

Again, we agree that this wouldn't be a long-term arrangement.

Tarasenko would fill a significant gap in the top-6 even if he doesn't play center, and his addition to the lineup could also help Ivan Demidov have better support around him. I like Alex Newhook, but in terms of talent, he's no match for a guy who's scored more than 20 goals in a single season eight times since the start of his career…

I really like that idea. Especially since it probably wouldn't cost an arm and a leg… and it would give the Habs a pure sniper to play alongside Demidov.
