For several years now, the idea of seeing Quinn, Jack, and Luke Hughes playing together for the same team has been a dream for many hockey fans, myself included.

After all, Jack and Luke are already two key players for the New Jersey Devils. All that's missing is their older brother to complete the picture.

The scenario is far from impossible… but it might take several more years to come to fruition.

In his latest article, Lyle Richardson of The Hockey News reports that the Minnesota Wild are still trying to reach an agreement with Quinn Hughes on the terms of a contract extension. The star defenseman can sign a new deal right now, even though his current contract expires next July.

Again, nothing new here.

But ultimately, the Wild would prefer a long-term deal. The reporter does, however, mention another possible scenario.

A three-year extension would mean that Quinn Hughes would become a free agent at the same time as his brother Jack, whose contract with the Devils is also set to expire.

In other words, the dream of seeing the three brothers reunited in New Jersey wouldn't disappear. It would simply be postponed.

Or could we expect to see them with another organization?

This possibility is likely to fuel further discussion in the coming months.

The Devils have never made a secret of the fact that they'd eventually like to reunite the three brothers, while Quinn Hughes has already acknowledged that he'd like to play alongside Jack and Luke one day.

The Wild, for their part, obviously have no interest in losing one of the NHL's best defensemen.

The organization is still hoping to convince its star defenseman to sign a long-term deal, even though no common ground has been reached yet.

One thing is certain: as long as Quinn Hughes hasn't signed his next contract, rumors surrounding his future will continue to fuel discussions throughout the NHL.

The dream of one day seeing all three Hughes brothers wear the same uniform is therefore still alive. However, we may have to wait a few more years before we know if it will become a reality.
