Today is August 6.
In a few weeks, training camps will kick off across the National League. It's coming up pretty quickly… and that's good news because summer is starting to feel long to me.
I can't wait for it to start again… and I'm certainly not the only one!
In Montreal, people are expecting the Canadiens to have a good season. That was the case in '25–'26, and expectations will be high for the Montreal team.
But even though it's impossible to predict exactly what will happen in the coming months, I asked ChatGPT to forecast the Habs' 26-27 season. And here's what it came up with:
- A record of 49-25-10 (108 points total)
- 3rd in the Atlantic Division behind the Sabres and the Lightning
In its predictions, ChatGPT sees the Sabres and the Lightning finishing at the top of the Atlantic Division. The Habs are ranked third, and here's how the rest of the standings look:

If the Habs are able to have a season like that, it'll be interesting… especially given that Kent Hughes didn't make any moves to improve the team this summer.
That said, ChatGPT bases its prediction of such a season for the Canadiens on a few factors: Ivan Demidov's breakout, Lane Hutson's development, and the consistent contributions of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Noah Dobson…
Sure, there are a few question marks right now when you look at the roster.
But we also know that the current roster is capable of delivering big results… because we saw it last season. The Habs became one of the best teams in the NHL, and now they have to prove that it wasn't just a fluke.
And everyone in town will be happy if the team has a season that lives up to what the artificial intelligence predicts…
