$5 million per season for Zachary Bolduc: “I have a hard time believing it”

Zachary Bolduc still doesn't have a contract lined up for next season.

And his situation is definitely generating a lot of buzz… because we're all wondering what his next deal will look like.

Will he sign a bridge contract? Or is the Canadiens more inclined to offer him a long-term deal? And financially, what should we expect?

We've seen several big contracts signed this summer, and because of that, it's only natural to think it will have an impact on Bolduc's deal. There's been talk that the Quebec native could command up to $5 million per season… but Renaud Lavoie has a hard time believing it.

He discussed this with Alexandre Lanctôt earlier this week:

Zachary Bolduc finished last season on the fourth line and struggled to find his role at times during the season. Is he really ready to sign such a lucrative contract?

Because we can't ignore the fact that it would come with… significantly higher expectations. Bolduc is from Quebec, and we know that in Montreal, people always expect a lot from a local player who's earning a pretty substantial salary.

Given what he showed in '25–'26 and knowing that he needs to be more consistent in his performances, the Canadiens might be better off taking their time…

On the other hand, the Canadiens paid a high price to acquire him, and they need to find a way to give him quality ice time so he can become even better. The Habs want Bolduc to be a key part of the team for many years to come, and the salary will follow once the player is able to prove he can be part of the future.

But we're not quite there with him yet.
