As my colleague Charles-Alexis Brisebois mentioned this morning (Monday), there was a possibility that the Toronto Blue Jays were looking to acquire a starting pitcher to replace Kevin Gausman—and for next year as well.
And now it's official. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Blue Jays have acquired Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels will receive top shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti, and right-hander Angel Rivero from the Blue Jays in exchange for Jose Soriano, sources tell ESPN.

In return, Toronto is sending the organization's No. 2 prospect, Arjun Nimmala, to the Angels, along with minor league outfielder Eddie Micheletti and pitcher Angel Rivero.
Soriano will provide the Blue Jays with depth in the middle of the starting rotation to support Dylan Cease and Trey Yeasage. He made 22 starts for the Angels in 2026, posting a record of nine wins and six losses with a 3.29 earned run average over 123 innings pitched.
The 27-year-old brings the ability to generate momentum out of thin air, having recorded at least seven strikeouts in eight starts this season. Although his 57 walks this season are a concern, Soriano consistently limited the damage and kept the Angels competitive when he took the mound, despite the team's many shortcomings.
The right-hander has two more years of arbitration eligibility remaining and will become a free agent after the 2028 season.
