The Canadiens must recall Logan Mailloux

On November 20, the Habs recalled leggy defenseman Jayden Struble, and since then he’s never been out of the lineup. His reading of the game and mobility allow him to play at the level of a top-4 defenseman, to the surprise of many experts.

Another defenseman who deserves a tryout with the big boys just as much as Struble is Logan Mailloux. This young man has made huge strides since the start of the 2023-24 campaign. In fact, JiC made a plea for the 20-year-old on TVA Sports.

“In a year of transition like the one the Habs are going through right now, even if there’s no rush, if a youngster is progressing like Mailloux is down there, if that youngster belongs to your future like Mailloux certainly seems to, then you owe it to yourself to allow him to continue his development with the best.” – Lajoie

JiC went on to use Struble as an example, who is more effective in Montreal than in Laval, where he still performed eloquently. This type of defender has assets that make him stronger with the best in the world. It’s true that Mailloux most likely possesses these skills.

Yes, he’s erratic defensively, but since he’s been paired with a piece like Arber Xhekaj, these shortcomings are suddenly much less palpable. If he’s paired with the right candidate in the show, he’s likely to surprise as much as Jayden Struble.

As we know, his repertoire remains very extensive. His shot is terrific and very powerful, his speed is NHL-worthy and his offensive instincts would give the Habs a new piece to the massive attack.
