Canadian places Gustav Lindström in the waivers

The Canadiens announced in the final minutes that they had placed Gustav Lindström on the waivers.

The defenseman hasn’t played since December 9 in Buffalo and was mainly with the big club in case of injury.

We knew that a defender was going to get the axe because of the depth in the attack…

And it’s only logical that it should be him.

This really gives us reason to believe that Rafaël Harvey-Pinard could play tomorrow night in Philadelphia.

The Quebecer is getting better, but he’s on the injured list at the moment and the club had to make room for him in the 23-man roster for him to be able to play.

It will now be interesting to see whether Lindström will be called up for the waivers.

The defenseman has played a total of 14 games with the Canadiens this season, and has done quite well under the circumstances.

So this is a great opportunity for any NHL team to get their hands on a right-handed defenseman who is reliable on the ice and really doesn’t have a big impact on a payroll. His contract, which expires at the end of this season, accounts for $950,000 on the payroll.

If I had an old nickel to put down, I’d say he’ll no longer be a member of the Habs in a little over 24 hours. He’s experienced, he doesn’t make a lot of money and he’s perfect for a club looking to add depth on defense.

And if he does leave… we agree it won’t be a huge loss for the Habs, who have plenty of good young defensemen.

Extension

As a reminder, the Habs acquired the defenseman in the deal that sent Jeff Petry to Detroit.

In the meantime, Lindström has been helping out the club on a few nights due to injuries… And that’s all we asked of him.
