World Championship: Lane Hutson scores a beautiful goal in the shootout

Lane Hutson hasn’t stopped surprising since the Canadians drafted him in 2022. The 19-year-old defenseman will represent the United States at the World Championship in Finland and Latvia starting on May 12. For the moment, he’s content to impress during the preparatory matches.

The Americans faced Germany in their final preparatory match before the start of the tournament. Germany were defeated 6-3, but were able to play an overtime period and a penalty shoot-out to prepare the teams for the tournament.

Germany lost 4-2 in the five-player shootout. Lane Hutson was one of four players to score, and his goal didn’t go unnoticed.

He completely undercut German goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger. Hutson was keen to prove that he belongs in the big league.

Hopefully, Hutson will have as much success with the pros as he has had with the US U20 team. At the last World Junior Championship, Hutson collected 4 points in 7 games.

Unfortunately for the Germans, Canadian prospect Sean Farrell gave the Americans another win in this game, scoring 3-on-3 in overtime.

Everything seemed to be going swimmingly for the Americans, with the exception of Cutter Gauthier’s injury, which forced him to leave the game. The forward, drafted fifth overall in 2022 by the Philadelphia Flyers, did not return to the game.

He now has three days to get back into shape, as the United States kick off their tournament on Friday. They face Finland.
