Is David Reinbacher ready to make the jump to the NHL? If it weren't for his injury last year, Reinbacher would have made his NHL debut by now. And by camp 2025, he'd be closer than ever to a full-time spot in the sun. And while we suspect he'll be playing in the NHL – barring disaster – at some point in 2025-2026, we don't know if it'll happen right away.

Obviously, there's the aspect of space at the blue line that comes into play. That's true for David Reinbacher and for Adam Engstrom, but the fact that there are six established defensemen who can't go to Laval without avoiding the waivers (and that Lane Hutson won't be going) makes it difficult for the youngsters.
May the best man win?

Yes, the Canadiens WANT Reinbacher to be good enough so that he can, at camp, make his mark on the heels of sparkling performances (we're not talking the same sparks as for Ivan Demidov, obviously) in exhibition games.
Reinbacher, who didn't break a sweat in rookie camp, has a long way to go to reach the NHL. And I'm not just saying that because of the weekend's rookie games. The Snake often says it: for what it's worth, those games are worth it.But I say it mostly because Pascal Vincent made it clear that Reinbacher needs some AHL mileage to start the 2025-2026 season. content-ads]
Watching David Reinbacher during Canadiens' two Prospect Showdown games and listening to Laval Rocket coach Pascal Vincent talk about him it's pretty clear he's not ready yet to make jump to NHL – especially after missing most of last season because of knee injury. #Habs

The Habs don't need Reinbacher jumping into the fray right now because of the guys in place. And the club, which strongly believes in his potential as a top-4 defenseman, will do everything in its power to put the Austrian in a winning position. Pascal Vincent, last month, didn't hesitate to sing the Austrian's praises. He's loved in the organization.
Laval #GoRocket head coach Pascal Vincent wasn't surprised to see David Reinbacher have success when he returned from injury:

His last two have been tough. And right in Montreal, it won't be easy to eat minutes – especially if Lane Hutson plays there – if everyone's healthy. Going to dominate in Laval wouldn't be naughty… especially if he doesn't dominate in practice camp. It would be the easiest solution, given the current situation
