On June 28, they will select Connor Bedard, the NHL’s future superstar. The 18-year-old Bedard dominated junior hockey in his final year before the draft. He accumulated 143 points in 57 games.
As we know, the NHL is very different from junior and in recent years, several players, who dominated in the CHL, have not been the same in the big league. Alexis Lafrenière comes to mind.
But for Bedard, it’s different, the guy has generational talent and his success in the big league is just a formality. But how dominant will he be in his first year? After all, in Chicago, the guy’s not surrounded by much.
There’s no shortage of money there. Maybe GM Kyle Davidson will want to spend this summer. But right now, the team’s counting on Connor Bedard and… Seth Jones, like.
Jonathan Toews won’t be returning to Chicago, Patrick Kane and Max Domi were traded at the last trade deadline. Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach also changed addresses. In short, Davidson has done a truly destructive job, just in time to welcome the next face of the Bettman circuit.
So here’s what the offense looks like as of today :
In his first year in the NHL, Connor McDavid scored 48 points in 45 games. He suffered a serious injury and missed nearly half the season. He wasn’t necessarily well surrounded, but he could still count on players like Leon Draisaitl, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at his side.
Can we expect similar production from the other Connor in his rookie season, at just over a point per game? To do so, the Hawks’ GM will have to find some good forwards on the market, that’s for sure. Will he even dare to trade one of his 20 draft picks from the next two auctions to strengthen his club right now?
In bunches
– If the Sharks or even the Jackets draft Michkov, it would be great news for Kent Hughes.
According to @EricEngels, the Habs would need Matvei Michkov less since the team would be further along in its rebuilding process than other clubs.🔵⚪️🔴
