Jesperi Kotkaniemi had an excellent series against the Devils

Last night, the Hurricanes became the first 2023 playoff team to reach the Final Four. They did so by beating the Devils… as they did in 2002, 2006 and 2009.

And of course, the Canes didn’t miss the chance to taunt the folks from New Jersey. Take a look at where Jon Bon Jovi came from, for those who don’t know.

The Canes will officially have more rest than their opponents, who will surely be the Panthers. The Maple Leafs could surprise, but it would be a big surprise.

A BIG surprise.

Since the start of the playoffs, the Canes have been a well-oiled machine. The club was never really worried against the Islanders, and it’s the same against the Devils.

The proof that things are going well is that even Jesperi Kotkaniemi had success against the Devils.

After being more timid offensively in the first round (he picked up one assist… in a loss), the Habs’ former first choice let himself go against New Jersey.

In five games, he has a 3-2-5 record.

In fact, he scored three times in the first two games of the series, including a brace in the second duel. In the other games, he was an important part of his trio.

Because yes, he does have a chance on the second line.

Last night, for example, he was at the heart of the play that allowed his team to advance to the third round in overtime. He didn’t score, but he did pick up an important assist.

To his team’s great delight.

Five years after being drafted, after changing teams and after signing a (too) big contract, it’s great to see him perform in the playoffs. His development has been slower, but more and more we see him establishing himself as an important player in Carolina, away from the pressure of Montreal.

The young playoff veteran will now have to work on his consistency, as against the Islanders, he wasn’t a factor.
