A disaster for the New York Rangers.

Last night, we saw Igor Shesterkin leave the game due to an injury. He was unable to put any weight on his right leg, and people in the Big Apple were truly fearing the worst.

The footage was pretty worrying.

And now the Rangers have just confirmed the worst: Shesterkin's season is (already) over.

Keep in mind that the team's No. 2 goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo, will also be out for another four weeks. So their goaltending corps is decimated.

This is obviously very bad news for the Rangers, who were hoping to become competitive again this season. Without Shesterkin, it's going to be a lot more complicated, let's be honest.

And that means right now, we're wondering if the team will be forced to make a trade to address the issue. Young Dylan Garand is likely to hold down the fort in the short term, but they'll probably want to bring in at least one other goaltender to help him out.

Samuel Montembeault, even though he's injured right now, could be an option given that his absence is expected to be short-term. But in reality, his current injury could be a stumbling block to a trade if the Rangers are (truly) in panic mode.

So we'll see what happens with the Blue Shirts, but the worst-case scenario is playing out there.

All that remains is to see how the next steps will be handled.
