Trevor Letowski: His New Mandate Is Clearer

Recently, the Canadiens announced that Trevor Letowski would no longer be behind the Habs' bench for the upcoming season.

As you're no doubt aware by now, Derek Lalonde, the former Red Wings coach, has been tapped to replace him moving forward.

We'll see if that helps.

It's not clear exactly how much the Montreal Canadiens wanted to make a change behind the bench. But they were in a position to do so this summer.

That said, they clearly didn't want to let the Ontarian leave the organization.

We say this because the rumor was that Trevor Letowski might stay with the organization if the right role became available to him.

And now, according to reports from Guillaume Lefrançois and La Presse, Letowski will remain involved in the player development department.

For several years, Letowski was tasked with player development in the NHL. So, at this point, it's potentially second nature to him.

Will that help him? Certainly.

It's interesting to note that this isn't the first time an assistant coach has left his position for family reasons only to end up in a development role.

Alex Burrows has a fairly similar background, in fact.

Keep in mind that Rob Ramage, who was in charge of the department, is now retired. So putting some extra effort into the department could be beneficial.

We'll see if the Habs confirm anything along those lines.
