In the most recent draft, the St. Louis Blues selected Maddox Dagenais with the 16th overall pick. The Quebec native, a big guy who plays center, is a prospect who's easy to like.

A strong center with an excellent shot—that's something many, many teams covet.

It's interesting, when you hear what went on behind the scenes at the Blues' draft, to get a sense of what led to this particular selection. And what really stands out is how strongly Keith Tkachuk, who serves as an advisor in St. Louis, pushed for the pick.

In the video, he emphasizes that Dagenais is imposing and would fill a need at center. But above all, he praises the Quebec native's scoring abilities.

Because, in his view, Dagenais has the potential to become a 40-goal scorer in the NHL.

Tkachuk, who is also a big fan of Dagenais's talent and grit, really wanted to see the Blues draft him. And it's worth noting that he wasn't the only one: Doug Armstrong, who was still the Blues' GM at the time, also seemed optimistic about the Quebec native.

It's worth noting that Armstrong, who is still involved with the organization, handed over the GM position to Alex Steen a few days after the draft. That didn't stop him from being a fan of Dagenais, though.

The Remparts forward will likely return to the QMJHL next season, where he'll look to build on his 30-goal, 62-point season in 62 games.

And assuming he does indeed return to the Quebec junior league, we'll see if he stays in Quebec City… or if his father, now head of hockey operations for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, will try to recruit him.
