Arber Xhekaj isn’t the kind of player you trade within the same organization, according to Jeff Marek
Arber Xhekaj has still not signed a contract, and several teams may be interested in him.
We know the Leafs have already shown interest, and the Flyers and Flames are following the situation closely.
Will he sign with the team before the start of the season?
Jeff Marek: Re: Arber Xhekaj's future/Canadiens: It's been out there for a while that Philadelphia could be his destination; my take on a player like Xhekaj, though, is that you send him to the other conference – The Sheet (7/28)

On his podcast The Sheet, Jeff Marek stated that you don't trade a player like Xhekaj within your own conference, let alone within your own division.
That said, should we rule out the Flyers and the Leafs? Does Kent Hughes feel the same way?
It's true that the defenseman is a big, intimidating player, but to go so far as to say he shouldn't be traded within the same conference is a bit of a stretch… He's not Connor McDavid, after all.
If a similar offer comes in from a team like Toronto or Calgary, for example, it's clear you'd trade him to the Flames, but if a team in the division offers significantly more, it's a no-brainer, in my opinion.
Until he's signed or traded, we're done hearing about Xhekaj (RFA), who, I'll say again, is still looking for a contract.
