Two Concerning Injuries at Chiefs Camp

A worrying moment occurred during the Kansas City Chiefs' practice on Saturday, when young wide receiver Cyrus Allen had to leave the field after a collision during special teams drills.

A few hours later, however, a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter went a long way toward reassuring the Chiefs. The injury to his left lower leg was ultimately determined to be a bruise on his shin. No tears or fractures were detected.

This news is significant for Kansas City, as the young player had been impressing since the start of training camp.

Dave Toub, special teams coordinator, noted that Allen was also having success on offense and was increasingly establishing himself as a player likely to play a key role this season.

His performances reportedly even allowed him to climb the pecking order to fourth among the team's wide receivers.

Toub noted, however, that rookies typically need to contribute on special teams before becoming established players on offense or defense.

Allen, however, wasn't the only wide receiver to leave practice early on Saturday.

Xavier Worthy also had to be evaluated after injuring his shoulder. The wide receiver had made a superb catch during an 11-on-11 drill, but he landed directly on his shoulder near the end zone.

The Chiefs will therefore need to closely monitor the health of their two wide receivers over the next few days. Fortunately, the initial diagnosis for Allen appears to be much less concerning than the initial images might have suggested.
