I've gotten my hands on some official documents regarding the renovation of the Olympic Stadium.
Four configurations are included in the plans, since several thousand seats (bleachers) will be retractable.
1. PERFORMANCE
Total capacity: 66,179
Capacity on the lower level, if the upper section is closed and hidden: 50,487

2. SOCCER
Total capacity: 52,709
Capacity without the upper section: 32,385

3. CFL FOOTBALL
Total capacity: 48,658
Capacity without the upper deck: 28,334

4. NFL FOOTBALL
Total capacity: 50,378
Capacity without the upper deck: 30,054

So there is NO BASEBALL CONFIGURATION in the plans to modernize the Olympic Stadium, even though just a few years ago, we came VERY close to getting our MLB team back, which would have played in the Olympic Stadium (1.0), I was told.
“It was never part of the plans,” I was told.
Note that there will be 3,578 Premium VIP seats across the three sports configurations and even more in entertainment mode.
I was also told that, for now, the Alouettes are less enthusiastic about moving into Olympic Stadium than CF Montréal.
Will the provincial government give the green light to begin these major renovations before the scheduled reopening in 2028? I can confirm that there is more talk about it now than there was before the media leaks and Don Garber's press conference.
Will the current pressure tip the scales in the right direction? We should know more in the coming days, before the National Assembly's summer recess.
