Brendan Gallagher played his final game in a Montreal Canadiens uniform.
A new chapter will begin once he is traded by Kent Hughes, and we know that will happen in the coming weeks. After all, it's the player's request… who broke down in tears in front of reporters during the team's end-of-season press conference earlier this week.
But the Canadiens' GM has a clear goal in mind for what comes next.
Kent Hughes wants to handle the situation with respect and do things the right way for Gally. Which, in fact, makes sense… considering all the veteran has contributed to the organization over more than a decade.
But to do so, Hughes not only wants to find a team that wants him: the GM also wants to find a team that will allow Gallagher to make an impact within the lineup.
That's what Darren Dreger mentioned during an Insider Trading segment (TSN).
Dreger reported on Insider Trading that the Canadiens want to do right by Brendan Gallagher, so that means not only finding the right team to take him, but also one where Gallagher can be a useful day-to-day fit.

Brendan Gallagher deserves it.
He's given enough since the start of his career to be treated this way, and it's good to see Kent Hughes's appreciation for him… even if the veteran's departure surprised the Montreal organization's management.
Now, the goal is to find a team that can give Gally the opportunity to play. And that might be easier than you think because there are rebuilding teams that need to fill roster spots (hello, Canucks!)…
But in all of this, what's good… is the fact that Kent Hughes is also showing other NHL players that he has respect for his guys.
It's the right message to send to the rest of the league, and we know that the Montreal market is going to become even more attractive in the coming years…
