CDM: Carey Price helped Samuel Montembeault prepare for the tournament

Samuel Montembeault has been invited to join the Canadian squad for the World Championship. He blanked Latvia in Canada’s first match, which was presented earlier today.

Let’s go!

With the Canadian season over for some time now, and the CDM tournament kicking off today, you’ll understand that Monty hasn’t had much, much rest in recent weeks.

With the other players now on vacation, the Quebecer had to find some help to get ready for the World Championship…

And that’s where Carey Price and Paul Byron come in. Why, you may ask?

Because the two veterans acted as “sort of” coaches for the Quebecer. Carey Price acted as his “goalie coach”, while Ti-Paul helped him by shooting pucks at him at the Bell Complex in Brossard.

You should have seen the smile on my face when I read this in a piece published by Stu Cowan (The Gazette).

Paul Byron said at the team’s last end-of-season review that he wasn’t writing off a possible return to action.

But chances are he won’t be able to because his body is having trouble keeping up. He did say, however, that he would be open to a position within the organization, as he sees himself in the development sphere…

And that’s how he’s going to get there.

For Price, it’s interesting to see him “involved” in Samuel Montembeault’s career. We know how much Montembeault enjoyed working with the former Flannel 31 because of his presence and NHL experience…

And I’m sure Carey knows it. In fact, I’m convinced of it.

Just imagine how special it must have been for the Quebecer. Receiving tips and advice from a goalie who can boast of having been the best in the world for so many years can only help, of course.

My hat’s off to the two veterans in question. Their NHL careers may be over, but it just goes to show how much their time in Montreal meant to each and every one of them.
