Jake Allen: Devils and Hurricanes remain in the running

Until he’s traded or the trade deadline (March 8) passes, Jake Allen will continue to be the talk of Montreal.

Will he stay in Montreal or be placed in the waivers?

All these questions could be answered in the next few days. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Hurricanes have spoken with Kent Hughes about their goaltender. He told Insider Trading.

We don’t know if they’ve made an official offer, but negotiations could resume in earnest around January 1. Remember that there is a trading freeze until December 28.

A deal between the two clubs is not necessarily imminent. That being said, Carolina’s number one priority is to wait for Frederik Andersen, but LeBrun doesn’t believe the organization will be able to be patient at this level.

One thing’s for sure, Don Waddell has been in the running for the Montreal goaltender for a long time.

Another team associated with Allen: the Devils.

Like the Canes, the New Jersey team has been linked to the 34 in the past. And the fact that they’ve freed up $9 million could help them go after him.

The source pointed out that the Devils have not yet spoken with Montreal, but are discussing the idea internally. It should be noted that Martin Brodeur worked with Allen in St. Louis and that the two know each other very well.

The Sabres and the Kraken have also reportedly spoken to the Habs about their two goaltenders who could be on the move.

To be continued, but the goaltending rotation may (finally) be on its last legs.
