When he was drafted by the Canadiens, Jacob Fowler appeared before the cameras to answer reporters' questions with a huge grin on his face.

In his comments, we immediately noticed something important. The young man is really, really, really confident in his abilities.

He said it openly: he loves the cameras, he loves being in the spotlight, and he excels under pressure and in the face of adversity.

Fowler's season is going swimmingly so far. Fowler has an 11-2-1 record so far this campaign, a .931 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average.

That's excellent.

The Canadian prospect shone once again last weekend, winning both his games and stopping 52 of 54 shots. The result?

The NCAA decided to reward him by naming him keeper of the week in its conference:

Jacob Fowler's performance in his very first year in the university ranks is reminiscent of Lane Hutson's.

The goalie is dominant even though he's a freshman, and like the defenseman, Fowler has played a crucial role for his team since the start of the season.

He was good right away, and you can't teach that at this level. It just goes to show that Fowler has enormous potential, which is something for the Montreal Canadiens organization and fans to smile about.

Everyone is looking for the identity of Carey Price's successor, and perhaps we have the answer to those questions right before our eyes. Fowler is still young and still has a lot to learn before he reaches the level of #31, but still.

It's off to a good start, at the very least.
